fedoradude > This is our route of travel over a 2-week period in October, 2008. As you can see, we covered 6 stops in Alaska, 3 in Canada and 3 in the states. We went from as far NW as Nome, Alaska to as far SE as Athens, GA. However, this gallery will only show the Alaska highlights. The same Alaska cities were visited in 2009, with addition of Anchorage.
fedoradude > As Alaska and Hawaii were the last 2 states added to the United States, Alaska's 50th anniversary of statehood is coming up in 2009.
fedoradude > A friend of mine lives up near Fairbanks and was gracious enough to take us for a siteseeing flight in his Cessna 182. This will give you an idea of how "up close" we were to the terrain we flew over as you can see the underside of our left wing at the top of the picture.
fedoradude > An above-ground portion of the Alaska Pipeline.
fedoradude > A portion of the Alaskan Pipeline that is buried underground.
fedoradude > An example of the breathtaking beauty of one of Alaska's many majestic mountain ranges. These are near Chena Hot Springs.
fedoradude > Near Chena Hot Springs, Alaska.

fedoradude > The snow-covered runway at Chena Hot Springs, Alaska. This is a hot springs resort and can be accessed by road or by air. As you can see, the runway and resort kind of sit down in among some hills and mountains. This view is looking back up the runway we just landed on. The 3 tire tracks are ours from our landing and turn to parking.
